The worlds challenge is drawing close, so it is time to discover the Imola worlds course that will crown the 2020 UCI men’s and women’s world champion. Today Vincenzo Nibali has done a careful inspection of the course where the best riders worldwide will compete against each other from the 24th to the 27th September.
The “blue” national team rider, escorted by the Italian National Team Technical Manager Davide Cassani, inspected the course starting and ending in the Enzo e Dino Ferrari Racetrack that the men will have to cover nine times and the women five times. The Shark inspected the key points, that is to say the tough Mazzolano and Gallisterna climbs, as well as the following descents which could turn out to be crucial if strong downhillers such as himself decide to try to make a difference right in those parts of the race.
«The course is difficult and selective, with two very tough short climbs. The second one towards the end is really hard followed by the long descent that leads back to the racetrack. To be in the lead one will have to be very alert and in good shape, in addition to being able to count on some good team work» said the Sicilian Trek-Segafredo rider at the end of his test ride. «I want to congratulate the organizing committee for doing such a great job, in spite of the little time available, to set up an event of this magnitude. I have seen that they have repaved already 90% of the race course so we are going to have it in top condition. It is going to be a wonderful challenge, a show that cannot be missed by the fans that I am inviting to come to Imola to root for Italy».
